Extra Curricular

Stretch Program

In 2022 Gleeson College implemented the Stretch Program. The Stretch Program is an enrichment program that supports high achieving students in extending their abstract thinking, creativity, and curiosity. The program runs after school one night each week and supports student agency as they learn about concepts they are interested in. The students participate in challenges and experience guest presentations. Furthermore, they are also given the opportunity to attend relevant enrichment opportunities outside of school. If you would like more information regarding the Stretch Program, or enrichment/extension opportunities within the College please email the Enrichment and Extension Programs Coordinator - Olivia Keatch (olivia.keatch@gleeson.catholic.edu.au)

Instrumental Lessons

It is our aim to provide the opportunity for all students to learn a musical instrument.  Professional musicians work on the campus and instruct students on as many instruments as possible.  Students may choose to learn:

  • Guitar / Electric Bass
  • Piano
  • Drums
  • Trumpet/ Trombone
  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Voice
  • Violin/Viola/Cello

If there is a demand for another particular instrument we will endeavour to provide tuition.  All lessons depend on adequate numbers of students and the possibility of obtaining suitable teachers.  Information will be available in the first week of Term 1, when students will be asked to register their interest.

STEM > Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. There are so many opportunities for students to learn and grow in these areas at Gleeson College.

We participate in the Science and Engineering Challenge, ICAS Science Competition, Westpac Mathematics Competition and Oliphant Science Awards each year.  Year 7, 8 and 9 students can also join the 'STEM Society'.  STEM Society challenges students with high-level experiences such as excursions, projects and guest speakers.  We also have access to university resources and explore future career pathways.  And each year we celebrate our success at an annual STEM Expo!

Year 10 students have the chance to be accelerated and study Stage 1 Engineering through our involvement in the Advanced Technology Project.  Senior students can specialise in different STEM disciplines and regularly represent the College at the National Youth Science Forum.

Stem Society currently runs on Friday lunchtimes in 2024. Contact Mr Tulip for more details.

Robotics Club has not yet commenced for 2024. Contact Mr Hernes for more details.

Saturday Morning Sport

There are many positive benefits that students can obtain from their involvement in physical activity, and we aim to provide all students with the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting activities for both the school or for local community teams. Parental and Old Scholar involvement in coaching and/or management of Saturday Morning sports teams is always welcome and appreciated.

Visit our SEQTA Sports Portal page to find the latest updates on training sessions, games, cancellations, and forfeits. We suggest that both students and parents check the Sports Portal every Wednesday and Friday to stay informed about any changes. The page is organized by sport, and it provides information on season schedules, standings, and links to current game schedules and locations.

We are fortunate that we can provide students with the chance to play in the Independent Schools' Sports Association and the Catholic School Girls Sports Association, both of which have statewide status.  There are also times during the year when we will provide students with the opportunity to participate in competitions which are organised by various sporting associations.  If we have students enquiring about a particular sport that is not currently offered by the school, we may be able to form a team if there are sufficient numbers interested.
