From the R.E.C.

Gleeson College hopes its students will experience learning and living fully integrated in the light of faith throughout all aspects of their lives here. The Religious Education Department plays an important role in helping students achieve this goal.

Gleeson College's Religious Education Department provides a five-year educational program for all students. The members of the department recognise that students come to Gleeson College from a diversity of religious backgrounds and practices.  All Religious Education courses are taught as part of the academic curriculum, with corresponding academic requirements.

Faith in God through Jesus Christ is a grace, a free gift from God. Archbishop James Gleeson in his letter to our community in 1989 urged us to be a community that walked in the shadow of the Cross - to live by the example Jesus gave us. Archbishop Gleeson also called us to be a people of service to others "With One Heart" - to care for the those in need.

As students search for answers and explore their faith journey, the Religious Education teachers function as guides and facilitators for them.

As a Catholic school, the focus of Gleeson College's Religious Education program is on Roman Catholicism. We hope to serve each student in his / her own religious quest and to provide the opportunity for students to explore Catholic traditions and beliefs.

The academic nature of this Religious Education program distinguishes it from other types of religious formation that takes place at Gleeson College, and in the individual student's own Parish and / or faith community.

These other types of religious formation are found in our Retreat Ministry program, our Liturgical Program, our Faith in Action programs and The Chaplaincy Project.
