Design & Technology
Design & Technology at Gleeson has a focus on using design thinking and technologies to generate and produce designed solutions for authentic needs and opportunities. At Years 7, 8 and 9 Design & Technology is optional. The students are provided with the opportunity to be creative, innovative and enterprising when using traditional, contemporary and emerging technologies, with a focus on woodwork, plastics, sheet metal, electronics, welding and CAD(depending on allocation of workshops). This is carried through to Year 10 level, where the students can choose to study Electronics, Metalwork or Woodwork. In the Senior School, the students can choose between Furniture Construction, Metals Engineering or Electronics.
Further to this, students can choose to undertake Year 10 Construction Technology which enables students to develop their practical skills, knowledge and understanding to a standard similar to that of an entry level construction worker. This course then leads to the Dorrways to Construction (D2C) Pathway, which is a full year VET Course conducted over one full day per week. In this course students complete a number of the National VET Competencies toward a Certificate I in General Construction.
